About
Mandarin Language & Cultural Center is a non-profit educational organization founded in 1997, and a member of the ANCCS (Association of Northern California Chinese Schools) committee.
Our mission revolves around teaching of the Chinese language, preservation of Chinese culture, and promotion of understanding and communication between Chinese Americans and people of various ethnic groups. The board of directors consists of five members.
Aside from the Principal, the school administration department also includes the curriculum team and finance and registration division, all of which are professional staff. More than half of the 50 faculty members hold Master’s degrees in Language studies or other education related fields.
There are around 1,000 students who attend class once a week.
Education
The course materials used include textbooks provided by OCAC and the AP Chinese materials published here in the U.S. Our teaching staff work together and develop appropriate workbook and reading assignments to meet the needs of our students.
The importance of reading comprehension is stressed, and aside from the textbook, all students are given access to additional reading material through the student library. To encourage vocabulary learning, the school holds basic phrase evaluation twice a year.
